Interagency Kickball
Famously Athletic
We wanted to beat Wieden.
I played on the Droga5 kickball team for a season. It was a blast. An opportunity to meet people where you’re wearing athletic shorts, dumb Volo shirts, and playing flip cup at the bar later. There’s no hierarchy, it’s just fun and networking in the most natural sense. Then I had an idea. What if we connected every NY advertising agency and made this an interagency thing? Let’s get the industry connected in the most casual way possible. Is it too much to ask of our Volo league to be the next Cannes? It was a steep goal but, for a first annual, we had a pretty great turnout. .
As a team full of creatives we started with the name. Everyone knows Grey is “Famously Effective”. So introducing:
You’d think getting a few coworkers to play a little extracurricular kickball would be a cinch, it wasn’t. But the season progressed and people saw just how fun it was. We started developing regulars who could then recruit more and—well you get the point.
By playoffs we had a pretty good rhythm going. And our tiny team of 7, sometimes 10, kicked our way to finish at third.
Up against some tough competition, and for our first at ball, I couldn’t be prouder.
The kickball roster was; Droga5, Weiden, GALE, Publicis, and TBWA Chiat Day.
Judge us not for the quality of these videos but the fun we were clearly having.
And here are some team photos for posterity.
Until next season. Hopefully you’ll be there too.
